New Plymouth Nazarene Church

    Who We Are

New Plymouth Nazarene is a community church who shows Jesus’ love in real and practical ways to those around us. We are a warm and inviting community for those who are seeking a place of belonging, while growing in our relationship with Jesus Christ and serving our neighbors.

We are also multigenerational, which means that our children are often in service with us. This enables the whole family to engage in the gathering and the Bible together. We approach church in a wholistic way, seeking to engage all the senses; therefore giving each person the ability to interact with the message in a way that connects with them personally.

Additionally, beginning in March, we will offer Children’s Church on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of each month!

Our beliefs are rooted in the Nazarene tradition.

    WE BELIEVE:

-in one God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

-that human beings are born with a fallen nature, and are, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.

-that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.

-that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.

-that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.

-that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.

-that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

-that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.

Sometimes these belief statements can be overwhelming, especially for those unfamiliar with the Church of the Nazarene. In the line of Wesleyan-Holiness theology, we believe that people can find hope and true freedom from sin through an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.

We believe that being a Christian is so much more than simply “getting into heaven,” (though that definitely matters!). It is about following Jesus, becoming more like Jesus, and becoming all that God created us to be. It is about being able to live in freedom from the power of sin in our lives and sharing this hope-filled message with others, helping to bring heaven to earth.

    Frequently Asked Questions

People ask many questions about a church when they consider visiting the first time, here are some of the most common.

What do I wear? (Don’t laugh, you know you were thinking it!)

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Some folks like to dress up, while others dress casually. God cares more about your heart than what you wear.

    Who is the pastor?

Suzanne Plantenga is the lead pastor here at our church. She has been in ministry for over twelve years and enjoys helping others grow in their relationship with Jesus.

Are you a small church? Does that make it awkward?

Yes, we are small (under 20 in fact). It’s only awkward if you desire to attend a church anonymously. Yes, you walk in and are immediately noticed and welcomed. It is hard to be unknown or unseen in a small church. But that is our superpower! We are a place where you can be known and be seen! We are a place where authenticity trumps anonymity.

    Do you have more questions?

Please connect with us, as we would love to answer other questions you might have, or even meet with you in person outside of Sunday morning. You can also schedule a visit of our church and have coffee with our pastor.

Most importantly, we want you to know that you're always welcome at New Plymouth Nazarene. We're saving a seat for you. Wherever you're at in your faith, you'll always be welcome as part of the NP Naz family as we all walk together in this journey of grace!
